The Yadkin Valley, including Mount Airy, is becoming a popular spot for vineyards and wineries. The Shelton Vineyards, established in 2000, stimulated the wine industry with the opening of the largest estate winery in North Carolina. Mount Airy is also home to the only Winery and Microbrewery in the state of North Carolina located in downtown Mount Airy and known as The Old North State Winery.
Also located in Surry County is Elkin Creek Vineyards-Elkin NC, Brushy Mountain Winery-Downtown Elkin, Stony Knoll Vineyards-Dobson, Round Peak Vineyards-Dobson and Surry Community College Winery-Dobson and Grassy Creek Vineyards-Elkin.
There are over 30 Wineries within the Yadkin Valley.
