Fans of television actor, Andy Griffith, can stay in the Mount Airy home where he lived during his adolescence until his high school graduation.
The Andy Griffith Homeplace, which has long been a tourist attraction to the area, was transformed into a rental property under former owner, Gary York. York bought the property for $86,900 during an auction sale held in the fall of 1998. He sold the house to the owners of the Mount Airy Hampton Inn for an undisclosed amount.
The Griffiths bought the house for $600 on Oct. 31, 1935. They sold the house on May 31, 1966, for $6,000. The house contains antiques and is decorated 1930s-1940s style. Griffith memorabilia and stories can also be found at every turn.
Experience the simplicity of Mayberry in this two bedroom, one bath home located less than one mile from the Andy Griffith Playhouse, Snappy Lunch, Floyd’s City Barber Shop and Downtown Mount Airy. Rates are $175-$200.
