A toe-tapping, foot-stomping good time presents itself each year when thousands of music lovers turn out for the annual Bluegrass & Old-time Fiddlers Convention in Mount Airy. The next event will be held June 6-7, 2008
The Convention attracts people from all over the world. Visitors have come from Europe, Mexico and England.
The event has been held every June since 1971, and is held the first full weekend in June of each year.
Participants compete in various categories including: Bluegrass & Old-time band, Bluegrass & Old-Time fiddle, Bluegrass & Old-Time banjo, guitar, mandolin, bass, dobro, dulcimer, autoharp, folk song, adult and children’s dance.
The two-night event, sponsored by The American Legion and V.F.W., brings campers into town the Monday before the event starts on Friday. The camp spaces are given out on a first-come-first-served basis. There are 10 acres of shady woods for camping and picnicking. The park is well-lit and public restrooms, showers, large concession stands, and picnic sheds are available.
