The New River Trail State Park is another great place for a casual, easy, family ride. The scenic mountain, 57-mile trail can be picked up in Galax, Va., which is a 45-minute ride from Mount Airy.
The trail parallels the river. Bikes can be rented at the Shot Tower State Park Exit off Interstate 77. Outdoor enthusiasts can also enjoy canoeing, horseback riding, camping, and picnicking in the park. Bicycles can also be rented in Mount Airy at Foothills Cycling.
