Mount Airy Celebrates Old-Time Legend Tommy Jarrell’s Birthday

The late Tommy Jarrell’s Old-Time talent has left quite an impact on Surry County’s musical tradition. Jarrell’s life and music is celebrated and honored during the annual "Tommy Jarrell Festival" Feb 23-26, 2006 in Mount Airy.

The festival includes jam sessions, art exhibits, a dance workshop, a talent competition, an evening dance, discussions, a concert, and screenings of videos on the life, music and storytelling of Tommy Jarrell. Wayne Jarrell, son of Tommy Jarrell, will call the dance.

The highlight of the event is the Tommy Jarrell Birthday Concert on Saturday, Feb. 28, at 7:30 p.m., featuring the area Old-Time bands.
