Mount Airy is a great stepping stone to touring many of the Yadkin Valley wineries, and it is within 30 minutes of 20 Yadkin Valley wineries. The itinerary below includes attractions in Mount Airy along with a sipping trip through the Yadkin Valley wine country. We hope you enjoy this Mount Airy, NC Very Surry Wine Trip.

Day One

Morning Start at Round Peak Vineyards and Skull Camp Brewing (open Sunday through Thursday), just minutes from Interstate 77. This winery and brewing company has eight French and Italian varietals along with Skull Camp wines blended from Round Peak and other local vineyards. The company also brews beer under the label Skull Camp.

Head to Downtown Mount Airy for a tour through Mount Airy by Mayberry Squad Car Tours, and then park your car at the Surry Arts Council for a visit through The Andy Griffith Museum.

Lunch Walk to Old North State Winery for food in the deli and a tasting of several wines and beers produced at this urban, downtown winery. Tip: Ask about the skeletal remains found in this old mercantile building and about the mysterious events that occur inside the building.

Afternoon Stroll down Main Street in downtown Mount Airy and visit one of the antique stores, candy shops, soda fountain shop, retail outlet, or toy store.

Tip: Before you depart, make sure to stop in the Visitor Information Center for suggested places to eat for dinner.

Check into your Mount Airy hotel for a nap before dinner.

For dinner, choose from Southern, mouthwatering cooking to upscale dining and hit the sack for an exciting next day through Yadkin Valley wine country.

Day 2

Morning Continue your tour of Yakdin Valley wineries by driving to Shelton Vineyards in Dobson for a one-hour, behind-the-scenes tour of the operations of the largest estate winery in North Carolina. Sample Shelton wines afterwards and spend time in the gift shop.

Tip: Make sure to take time to walk through the grounds, spotting the nearby pond and beautiful grounds.

Lunch Eat lunch at Harvest Grill on the Shelton Vineyards’ property while enjoying more Shelton wines while gazing over the gardens and vines of Shelton Vineyards.

Tip: Ask to sit in the air conditioned patio that overlooks the scenic property.
